When You're Looking
With
all the senior living options available today, it can be challenging
to decide which one is right for you.
Some of the advice we have for you is simply practical. Try to
find out as much as you can about today's senior living choices
before you tour. Then, ask as many questions as you wish. A good
example might be, "How will your community enhance my lifestyle?"
or, "Does your community include quality health care in its
service fees?” To assure your financial security, be sure to ask whether any of your initial investment in the community will be returned. Some senior living communities may ultimately return none of your one time entrance fee.
One of the most important questions you may want to ask is simply,
"How do I know this community is right for me?" Most
seniors would prefer to stay near family, favorite neighborhoods,
restaurants, medical services and shops:
- Easy access to major thoroughfares is a great advantage when
running errands or visiting
local attractions.
- Make sure the community you're visiting provides transportation
for times when you'd rather not drive.
- At a minimum, a reputable
senior living community should have a caring and dedicated
staff that provides dining choices, weekly housekeeping, maintenance
services, 24-hour security, scheduled transportation and a range
of engaging activities and programs.
- Amenities should promote wellness with an emphasis on staying
physically and mentally fit.
- A wellness center, business center, spa/salon, library, auditorium,
and a choice of dining venues are fundamental.
